In today's bustling world, where every moment seems to bring new pressures and demands, it's easy to overlook the subtle ways in which our emotions affect not only ourselves but also the animals in our lives. Recently, a poignant encounter with one of my cherished pony companions served as a powerful reminder of this interconnectedness.

As I went about my chores one day, consumed by the usual stress and anxiety of the day, I found myself on the receiving end of an unexpected bite on the head from one of the ponies. Bewildered by his seemingly unprovoked action, I couldn't help but wonder what message lay beneath his behaviour. He hadn’t bitten me to get food, or to stop me doing anything to him. I wasn’t even aware that he had come over to me.
Upon reflection and a heartfelt conversation with my equine friend, I was astonished to discover his candid response: he simply said "I don’t like your feelings." In his own eloquent way, he conveyed how my inner turmoil manifested as a disruptive swarm of "noisy bees" around my head, causing him discomfort.

This revelation prompted a shift in my approach. I reminded myself of the importance of acknowledging and managing my emotional state before engaging with my animal companions. By prioritising moments of calm and clarity, I could create a more harmonious environment for us both.
Despite my background in mental health and mindfulness practices, this experience served as a humbling reminder of the relentless nature of our inner struggles and the profound impact they can have on those around us. It underscored the invaluable role that animals play as compassionate guides, illuminating the areas where we need to nurture and grow.
With renewed intentionality, I embarked on a journey of self-care, releasing pent-up stressors and embracing moments of joy and tranquillity. And true to the wisdom of my equine companion, I soon found myself greeted by a reassuring message from him, as he looked at me one day and said: "the bees have gone."
In gratitude for the profound lessons they impart, I continue to marvel at the insights gleaned from my interactions with animals. For in their gentle presence lies a profound invitation—to cultivate greater emotional awareness, foster deeper connections, and embark on a journey of mutual growth.
